What people are saying about The Railway Sleeper Lodge

Summary
4.6

Pleasant stay, spacious room- Rating 4/5

We stayed in a family room as 3 adults as a place to stop over for a works Christmas party. The room was a great size and the bathroom was huge! Great hot and powerful shower and two sinks and enough mirrors for everyone! Slightly out dated/mismatched bathroom suite but perfectly usable and clean. On a surface level the room was clean, although it needs a good clean under the beds (having looked under them to check for anything left behind) but otherwise fine. The owners were super helpful in texting all the details for check in- very clear to follow. Great value overall, would use again for sure thank you!

Dog friendly - Rating 5/5

We were impressed with the room we had as it was both clean and comfortable as well as being bigger than we were expecting. In a town which doesn't accommodate dogs in many places, we were very happy to find this place. Would stay again.

Response

Karen thank you for your review and we are delighted to read that we suited you and your dogs.

Good clean rooms at a reasonable price - Rating 4/5

We booked 2 rooms, a double and a twin, whilst attending an open day atUniversity of Essex in Colchester. Its a 10 min drive from the University. We stayed at Mile End Road. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed for our stay, microwave, iron, ironing board, kettle, hairdryer, tea & coffee, and free wifi. The heating could also be controlled individually in each room. There is a pub serving food just 3 mins down the road. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect accommodation in a great location for our needs, comfortable room had all we needed for the duration of our stay and was a great cup of coffee to wake up to too. We’ll definitely be back as and when we need to be down South again

Adequate - Rating 3/5

Rooms very small but clean and comfortable. Handy to have a fridge.Stairs are very steep and verging on dangerous especially when carrying cases.Dubious person staying in room 4 who was clearly smoking and drinking heavily. I had to help her down the stairs as she was drunk at 9am.

Response

Andrew thank your feedback and the positive comments you have made and in particular about cleanliness. We do make it very well known on our website and in the confirmations you were sent that we have quite steep stairs so this wont suit everyone. Clearly we have no control over what guests do privately and are only involved if this disturbs other guests but from your comments, thank you for assisting this other guest and thank you for custom.

Good but noisy - Rating 3/5

The location a few minutes’ walk from Colchester Station, access arrangements and amenities in the room were all good. However I was in a front room looking over a very busy road and the traffic noise until late evening and from 5.30 am made it difficult to sleep.

Response

Suzanne thank you for telling us anout your stay and the positive comments you have made. We are sorry you found it noisy although we do make it well known both on our website and in confirmations we send that the Bergholt Road is a busy road located near a busy main train station. Over the years we have had many guests tell us that they find our place quieter than the many more expensive hotels in the town centre but I suppose it depends on what noise levels you are used to at home. Should you look to stay with us again though, you can always request a room at the rear of the property and we would do our best to accommodate. Thanks once again.

The Best Last-Minute Find In Colchester!! - Rating 5/5

Found this place on Google as it was cheaper than everywhere else when we decided very spontaneously to spend our first child-free night since our daughter was born. Honestly, it was probably cleaner and had better accommodation and hygiene etiquette than any of the more expensive hotels we considered. Everything was simple and easy, from check in/out to having the necessities to have a relaxing stay. 6/5 stars xx

Response
